TEFL = Teaching English as a Foreign Language in the UK or abroad (sometimes wrongly called TEFAL). This is not a teaching qualification in itself. Cambridge CELTA, which is recognised by the British Council, provides you with the qualification you need to teach English as a Foreign Language.

TESOL = Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages: in the UK, this involves teaching adults who are settled here, such as members of EU states, or refugees and asylum-seekers. CELTA can help you get this kind of job, but you will need to gain further qualifications once you start teaching.
